CAMP SWEENEY A Life-Changing Experience
One of the most life-changing opportunities my son has had since his diagnosis, is attending CAMP SWEENEY. This amazing camp, sponsored by the SOUTHWESTERN DIABETIC FOUNDATION, is designed specifically for kids with Type 1 diabetes, providing them with the tools, support, and education they need to confidently manage their condition while still having fun, making lifelong friends, and experiencing the joys of summer camp.
At Camp Sweeney, he is not the “sick kid” at camp—he’s just another kid learning to live his best life, and it’s a place where he feels accepted, supported, and empowered.
The camp’s medical staff, counselors, and volunteers are specially trained to support kids with diabetes, allowing them to focus on building confidence and self-reliance without the fear of feeling different from others. It’s an experience that’s had a profound impact on him—and our whole family.
